The "Sneakers Required" New Year's Eve Ball 2008, hosted by Mos Def at La Terra, San Fran. It was a great party I have to say, it had plenty of chicas and plenty of free booze... on New Years, I couldn't have wanted much more. But there was one catch...
The event's partial proceeds benefit H.E.A.R., a group that works to educate the public on the dangers of excessive noise and helps provide hearing protection for musicians and music fans. Sounds OK I guess, but here's da catch...
The sound system was horrible, it was plagued with major issues, bad distortion and high volume.... ironic. Half the sceduled artist had little or no play time.Among the scheduled to appear was Goapele & DJ Namane, Mike Tiger, San Fran's DJ Mr. E, New York's DJ Boggie Blind, and Mos Def's Producer/DJ Preservation.
Luckily Mos came out and rocked it. Showed us how its done... regardless of the sound issues.
All-in-all, the party was off the hook. Me and Aph got to kick it back stage, we didn't spend a dime, and we met some a Mos' family, crew and his DJ/Producer - Preservation. And its all thanks to our main girl, Gewels, Word up.
